Inspirational Wendy’s fund-raising aim
WENDY Evans-Scott is celebrating a double
dose of success — as
well as being appointed manager of the Banstead branch of Hamptons International,
she has been given the all-clear after a year-long series of treatments for breast
cancer.
Now, as well as devoting time to building the business, she
is also planning to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Hospital, the UK’s
major centre for cancer research and treatment.
“I was diagnosed in March last year, a devastating blow as I had just been
offered a manager’s role within Hamptons,” said Wendy.
“I decided to continue in my role as assistant manager at our Esher branch
throughout my chemotherapy, two major operations and subsequent radiotherapy — with
incredible support from Hamptons.
“It was just before Christmas, as I finished the radiotherapy, that Hamptons
offered me the fantastic opportunity to launch and open their newest branch in
Banstead.
“I spent time hand-picking my team and co-ordinating the stunning refit
of the premises before opening the doors of the office in February.
“I was thrilled, and immensely grateful, not only to Hamptons for their
support, but to all those who have helped me recover my health and so am determined
to raise money for the Royal Marsden hospitals at Sutton and at Fulham where
I had my treatments.”
Wendy is now training for a sponsored 10k run in London this July, and will then
be preparing for a challenging nine-day cycling trip through Cuba next March,
with her 17-year-old son David and brother Steven.
“Between us we aim to raise at least £9,000, which will go towards
a new chemotherapy unit at the Marsden in Fulham,” she said.
Wendy has worked in estate agency for more than 20 years, lives in Dorking with
husband Simon, and juggles the commitments of her successful career with a full
family life.
As well as David, she has a daughter Joanne, who is at university, and 10-year-old
step-daughter Phoebe.
Wendy is currently vice-chair of the Surrey branch of the National Association
of Estate Agents and has recently been presented with a special merit certificate
for outstanding services rendered to the Association.
Wendy started as a secretary and first got into estate agency as a secretary
for a firm in Worthing, Sussex, in 1985.
She soon started to climb the career ladder, and within three years was given
her first managerial role. She attributes her success to her enthusiasm and her
pride in her work.
“I love what I do, dealing with the public and the satisfaction of helping
people to sell one property and then move to their dream home,” said Wendy,
who joined Hamptons from Countrywide in 2006.
